What were your first impressions of Korea?
It is very clean. It’s interesting… it’s very hard to find trash cans, Sol said with laughter.
Sol went on to say the following “CHA Health System is huge. All the facilities are very impressive. I wish the hospitals in the US could mirror what I saw here. I am also hoping that our new patient Tower will reflect what we saw here. The people are very welcoming, very generous, we have been treated like queens and kings.
Differences btwn the US and Korean healthcare system?
Since we have only been at CHA facilities, its difficult for me to speak of Korean hospitals in general, however it seems like they cater to private pay although they may have insurances.
There are not ratio btwn the amount of nurses needed to number of patients. It looked like everything was organized; everything was labeled.
What were you most impressed with?
I liked the fertility banking and who sophisticated it all was, as well as the checks and balances they have to protect the identity of the eggs and proper matching. Frankly, everything about the CHA health system was truly impressive. The fact that it was all so high tech and CHAUM! Oh my goodness that was amazing.
What is your one favorite memory of this experience?
CHAUM, all the state-of-the-art technology surrounding the anti-aging and the spa. The machine where you lay down and they remove all the toxins- I wish I could get that.
What information are you going to take back to your colleagues at CHA HPMC?
That CAH is huge. I never thought they were this big. 4-5 different hospitals and their dedication to research. They are the best.

What has been your overall experience in Korea?
Fantastic. Especially the hospital tours. I got to see state of the art hospitals. I got to know my fellow global ambassadors more because we experienced this together.
What were your first impressions of Korea?
The country is so progressive. So many tall buildings! The architecture is amazing. Also, very clean. I didn’t see many trashcans, but even though, the city itself was so clean.
Differences btwn the US and Korean healthcare system?
Back in the US, our facilities are not as nice and new. The way units are set up individually is very different. Also the way insurance works in Korea is very different that in the US. My hope is that we will see the same dynamic and flow in our new patient tower as I saw here in the CHA hospitals.
What is your one favorite things that you saw in the CHA Health System Hospitals?
The set up. Everything you need is already in the room for you. The patient does not have to move very much to get things done.
What is your one favorite memory of this experience?
Other than seeing our sister facilities which were remarkable, trying on the hanbok and seeing the Changgyeonggung Palace was such a wonderful experience. The whole group participating in the culture and being together was so special.
Any other thoughts?
I wish I can come back!
What information are you going to take back to your colleagues at CHA HPMC?
I will tell them the main focus was to see the CHA hospitals and although we did not get to see all of the Global Forum, what we were able to see was so interesting. They were discussing all their work and research in stem cell and how it can eventually help Parkinson’s patients.

What were your first impressions of Korea?
They are very advanced in technology. We learned so much while we have been here. It has been a dream come true.
Differences btwn the US and Korean healthcare system?
People seem so happy and calm when interacting with the patients. In the US, it’s a little more stressful. The way hospitals are built is different. Its more spread out. The waiting rooms are bigger. Also the separation of men and women care is different in Korea than in the US.
What information are you going to take back to your colleagues at CHA HPMC?
It’s been a wonderful experience being here and learning how CHA is contributing to expanding our life expectancy or longevity- it is something incredible. Learning about all the research that CHA Global is doing with stem cells… maybe we will all make it to over 100!
What is your one favorite memory of this experience?
Visiting the fertility clinics. I have always been interested in that especially because I know it has been a struggle for some women. And now with the research and the number of clinics CHA has, hopefully it will be easier for women to have families if they want. It was so impressive.

What were your first impressions of Korea?
It is a very modern city and the people are so nice, eventhough there was a communication barrier sometimes. Everyone always tried to speak English. I loved the food and the hotel we were in and the shopping. The hospitals we visited were remarkable. I could not believe that Dr. Cha owns all these facilities. I had to ask myself- how did you do all this. They are all so big and beautiful. He is so successful and I am so proud to be a part of this community. He has been so generous to us while we have been here as guests.
Differences btwn the US and Korean healthcare system?
The one stop shop method. The patient comes in for a physical and everything is available in on building. It’s so convenient for the patient! The privacy that is given for example when shots are given was so great.
Does being here and seeing the facilities make you excited for CHA HPMC?
Absolutely! I am so excited to see our modern and new patient tower.
What is your one favorite memory of this experience?
The way we were welcomed. The people here are so nice and welcoming, eventhough we don’t speak the language. And I loved the culture.
What information are you going to take back to your colleagues at CHA HPMC?
The high-tech facilities that we saw and the fertility centers were so nice.

What were your first impressions of Korea?
Beautiful, modern, clean and the people are so nice and welcoming.
Differences btwn the US and Korean healthcare system?
There are similarities. We all take care of our patients. But the healthcare business model is different. For example, the post partum care is very different. In Korea, mothers can stay in the hospital for 14 days after they have the baby. In the US, our healthcare business model, this could not be done due to insurance. The hospitals are more modern here too.
What is your one favorite memory of this experience?
Learning about the research and visiting the other hospitals, the food and drinks have been amazing. The knowledge, the science, the technology, and the culture that we have been able to learn from has been something that I will take with me.
What information are you going to take back to your colleagues at CHA HPMC?
My experience has been so positive. The cleanness of the city, the hospitality of the people has made this such a wonderful experience. I have learned so much about our Global Network and healthcare here in Korea.
Justin Lao_RN_ICU_6 years at HPMC
Differences between the US and Korean healthcare system?
I didn’t see many male nurses. We see more in the US than in Korea.
The overall size of the hospital is bigger here in Korea, the different floors for the care was so interesting.
What are some general thoughts of Korea?
It is very safe, clean and people are very polite. When we were walking, someone saw us struggling with directions, and they helped us get back to our hotel. The politeness factor has been so nice.
What information are you going to take back to your colleagues at CHA HPMC?
Things are very advance and that there is a lot of research going on here. I want to tell them especially all the stem cell research that CHA Global is doing and the egg bank/fertility advancements. Also- I can’t wait to describe CHAUM and how beautiful the facility was and the treatments they offer.

What are some general thoughts of Korea?
It has been a very informative experience. I have learned so much by touring all the facilities.
Differences btwn the US and Korean healthcare system?
Patients are treated differently. In Korea they have national insurance which allows for patients to stay longer in the hospitals than they would in the US. Also, how they separate men and women when it comes to care.
What information are you going to take back to your colleagues at CHA HPMC?
From what I have seen, Korea has a little higher technology when it comes to care. It is very organized, and the staff does not seem to be as stressed. It is very peaceful and efficient.
What is your one favorite memory of this experience?
Having the opportunity to see the other hospitals. It was so impressive.

What were your first impressions of Korea?
It is such a clean country. I am from Asia, and it is so different from the other countries I have visited. It’s a bit chilly but beautiful.
What were your thoughts after touring all the CHA hospitals (aka our Global network)
Very high tech, modern, so impressive and world class!
What information are you going to take back to your colleagues at CHA HPMC?
Our company is thriving. We are advanced, our sister company is researching for advance technologies. I am so proud to be part of this company and can’t wait to see this same modernization and technology at our new patient tower. I am so proud to be part of this Global Network and can’t wait to see this same advancement in our new patient tower.
What were you most impressed with?
As a woman, CHAUM… WOW!. It is focusing on our beauty and anti-aging. I also love the post-partum care. I loved that.
What is your one favorite memory of this experience?
The people and sharing this experience with the other Global Ambassadors. Meeting Dr. Cha was so great. He is so down to earth. Both Dr. Cha and Mrs. Cha went out of their way to make us feel special and welcomed and took care of us since the beginning. But this has been a truly unforgettable experience.

What are some overall thoughts of Korea?
Just being able to be a part of everyone from HPMC coming over here, has been phenomenal. You cant imagine what Korea looks like until you are here. You don’t realize the size of the landmass vs amount of people living here until you get there and you can see how it inspires the buildings.
Differences between the US and Korean healthcare system?
Healthcare is a lot of different than in the US. In Korea, it seems like they tend to really care about the whole body and including the mind in terms of whole healing as oppose to just they acute. In Korea, they want to make sure you are also emotionally well a swell as physically.
CHA HPMC and development potential.
I have been very fortunate in seeing artist renderings of the new patient tower in Los Angeles and I now see how they are going to incorporate the developments that are here in Korea. They are incorporating the Korean influence of healing with the colors and shape of our building. Now that I have seen the healthcare in Korea and I realize that we are incorporating some of it in our New Patient Tower, my hope is that the whole US will also start incorporating the whole wellness factor in our healthcare.
What is your one favorite memory of this experience?
The surprise of seeing the different facilities, especially the BioComplex is amazing. I can’t think of another word to describe it. You have to see it to believe what is it like. Although CHAUM is great, the research, the biobanks has been the best part for me.
